Alliance Solution for Housing benefit tenants

Alliance Solution for Housing benefit tenants

Last Week, the newly formed Landlords Alliance came up with a unique and simple solution, to help housing benefit tenants in to new homes. We proposed that Shelter act as guarantor for housing benefit tenants. It should be remembered that this £60 Million charity offers advice, but houses nobody.

They employ over 1000 and their CEO earns over £120k. Shelter therefore could very easily offer real and practical help by offering to bond tenants. £60 M equals 15000 bonds if each guarantee was worth £4K. Obviously the majority of these tenants are good decent people, therefore the bond would not be called in. Yes imagine 15000 families empowered .

Our plan was immediately supported by hundreds of landlords and even better Karen Buck Labour MP also supported us on twitter. We thanked Karen as support flooded in with emails from benefit tenants thanking us for supporting them. Imagine our surprise and horror, when this MP then deleated her support and blocked us. This is cruel and shocking. A few weeks short of Christmas, a plan to given thousands of benefit tenants a shouting chance of a new home and the MP who liked our plan, changes her mind and offers no explanation to these people. Was Shelter involved in her decision to recant?

Did she regret her support because it might have annoyed Shelter? Who knows. Shelter instead prefer to whine about discrimination against DSS tenants.

The reality is that Landlords must pay mortages. Benefit tenants rent is paid monthly in arrears, while private tenants pay in advance. Private tenants have deposits, while very often benefit tenants do not. Landlords decisions therefore, are not based on bias, but based on commercial reality. Agents also have faced the wrath and ire of Shelter, accused of discrimination for simply acting in the best interests of their clients.

The media meanwhile have acted disgracefully like vultures sweeping in to eat the carcasses of these vile agents. This atmosphere of negativity, bile and hate can be laid at the door of Shelter.

We stepped in to de escalate this crisis. Our solution provided security for landlords and tenants alike. Are Shelter saying that housing benefit tenants are not to be trusted? Our landlords are willing to give them parity of treatment with private tenants, if the bond was forthcoming. The rent delays, payments in arrears, no credit history etc would be overlooked. Our plan was scuppered.

Who blocked it and why? Surely these tenants who have had their hopes of moving dashed before Christmas, deserve an explanation. Finally we are not interested in excuses.

We again demand that this Charity stand as Guarantor for benefit tenants. To say they assist by offering advise, does not cut the mustard. It is shameful. Real support and action is what is needed.

We are waiting, our landlords are ready and waiting but most importantly thousands of tenants are waiting

What is Shelter doing ?

And Where is Karen Buck MP?

Hi Larry

Quite by co-incidence I have been working on an idea for deposit guarantees, and last week I sent it to P118 to post, and it has been posted on the forum today http://www.property118.com/depositbond-paper-guarantees/#comment-107816

Karen Buck MP did not support Mr Sweeney on twitter, nor did she delete that support.

Mr Sweeney claimed that Karen Buck had 'liked' a tweet of his (she hadn't, though even if she had, which she hadn't, a twitter 'like' is usually just bookmarking something for later, not an endorsement). He then, extraordinarily, claimed this was an endorsement.

When Karen Buck said that he was making this up, Mr Sweeney began a bizarre conspiracy theory that she had been leant on by Shelter.

He has persisted in this nonsense for days.

I'm afraid that if this is Mr Sweeney's approach to gaining influence, it is going nowhere at all extremely quickly.

0Thank you Mr Giles Peaker for the audit trail of The Twitter conversation. Unfortunately Mr Giles Peaker failed to Peak at our original Tweet on the subject and the fact that it was liked by the MP. The MP then recanted and asked us to deleate before blocking the Alliance. So Mr Giles Peaker, come clean and add the original tweet and the like. When an individual likes a tweet it generally means they agree with said tweet. When they Like the Tweet, later ask for it to be deleated and block an account, that obviously raises many questions. Mr Giles Peaker and his selected tweets are another story.
With respect to Mr Peaker, does he agree that the Alliance idea of Guarantees by Shelter for tenants is a great idea?. At the end of the day, the solution is what is important, not the hair splitting. Will shelter join our Landlords in helping benefit tenants in to new homes.

Larry, there was no like.

Karen asked you to delete your tweets lying about her 'support'. The full trail is there for anyone to see on twitter. Karen then blocked you because you kept repeating.

. I am at a loss what you think you are going to gain by it, because it certainly won't be anyone taking you seriously.

No Mr Peaker, The Alliance 100% stands over the original tweet and the fact that Karen Buck liked it.
Over to you sir. You have produced these tweets but FAILED to produce the original one, from which these followed.
We 100% state that Karen Buck liked that tweet.
Finally Sir, what about our plan to assist benefit tenants move in to new properties. Do you back Shelter in their refusal to act as guarantor to assist these tenants. No red Herrings please. Do you agree with the Shelter refusal to back tenants?.

'The Alliance'? You mean you, Larry.

The link in my previous reply was the original tweet that you claimed (wrongly) that Karen liked. Even if she had, which she didn't, that is not an endorsement. People often 'like' tweets to mark them to came back to later on.

Giles, you seem extremely upset. Perhaps KB could clarify.
In the meantime forget insulting the Alliance. Stick to the substantive issue.
Do you agree with Shelters refusal to assist Benefit tenants with bonds.
Benefit tenants who could be helped in to homes with our plan will not be interested in hair splitting. They want homes, we have landlords ready to house and all we need is agreement from the £60 Million housing charity.
Mr Peake if you have any influence with Shelter, I personally implore you to intervene and get them to accept the Alliance plan, unless of course you do not back the plan.

Larry, I understand why you are so desperate to change the topic. Karen has, it is safe to say, already made her position clear. The link to her tweet saying exactly that is in my previous comments.

As stated Mr Peaker, the Alliance says that the tweet was liked by KB. 100%.
Now let us have some clarity?
Do you speak for Karen Buck?
If So does Karen not agree with our plan to assist Benefit tenants in to housing?
Why has Shelter failed to assist these tenants by providing Bonds.?
Are you saying that no other conversation exists between the Alliance and KB apart from your Twitter trail published here.???

"as support flooded in with emails from benefit tenants". Well done for getting tenants to engage so quickly. I doubt the RLA/NLA could do that.
