Heard Starmer on TV last night talking about "greedy landlords' getting prospective tenants to bid for properties.
Possibly some do, but due to supply and demand, with lot of landlords leaving sector for reasons we all understand, there are less properties available to rent.
(most commercial ventures would take advantage of supply and demand...think PPE...)
So surely the answer would be for Labour Party, if elected, to build more social housing immediately not abolish Section21. That would help the situation.
I think removal of Section 21 will drive more landlords out of sector so there will be even less properties available!
Here in Wales we have different rules, we have a no-fault eviction but have to give 6 months notice.

The lack of understanding never ceases to amaze. This could prove to be their biggest own goal yet !. No longer will tenants be able to blag their way into social housing whilst blaming everything on everyone but themselves. To be honest , the section 21 withdrawal concerns me less than any of the other measures. From what I can tell , for any portfolio landlord who intends on holding onto their stock , the section 8 is adequate ?. I have only ever served section 21 for my tenants being in arrears or anti social behaviour. The ' no fault ' eviction tag is the biggest lie in buy to let.

Thank god I'm older ...buy to let is finished ...just turn them into airbnb less regulation and easier to fiddle taxes etc ....but it won't be long before before the ginger wingger and sir stammer pick up on it .....they just don't like small landlords ....we have sold lots of ours now want to be cash rich not property rich ....x

Well said Mick.
Preventing landlords from gaining possession from a ‘bad tenant’ only serves to deny a potentially good tenant from escaping woefully inadequate, council-funded, temporary accommodation.
If the landlords wants to sell, government should not prevent vacant possession. Doing so prevents a family from potentially buying a home of their own and condemns them to the savages of the PRS forever.

That ‘rule’ could be changed. If it isn’t changed, what we’ll see is long term tenants (U.K. Nationals) losing their homes via S8 and living on the streets. This will leave more Social Housing for Councils to house migrants.
I see the plan.

Agree, I have used section 21 twice, but If I hadn't used a 21 I would still have evicted the tenants on a section 8, which would have left the tenants with CCJs and no hope of getting another house in PRS.
Who would gain by abolishing section 21? It's a shot in the foot for Rayner I think.

Surely this is the whole point?
It will ease the councils responsibility to home tenants and put it onto landlords. The only good thing is that bad tenants will not be housed at all so they'll get what they deserve
