Hello, a council tax bill was sent to my rental property which was empty for one month during a new tenancy. I notified the council that all correspondence should be sent to my residence.  In the past it has but last year it didn’t. The new tenant kept letters and demands and court orders from the council and now enforcement.

Have explained to the council that I didn’t receive any of these letters to my residence as per the instructions. The council is having none of it.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Send the Council, and the Court, copies of the letters you sent to the Council Tax department and note the failure of the department to amend their records as requested.

I take it you informed them the date that the new tenant(s) took over responsibility for Council Tax.

Your tenant is not responsible for forwarding on any mail addressed to you.

In hindsight you could/should have done a 3 month Royal Mail postal forwarding service as you would be expecting bills from Utilities, Local Authority etc during the time you were responsible for payments to them.

I don't think it's clear what advice you're seeking.
When a tenant moves out you can't assume they'll check back to find a correspondence address from before, you have to tell them your correspondence address each time.
A council has a huge number of different functions and many different systems. If you mean you'd expect telling one department would tell all, the systems aren't joined up like that.

Having had exactly this problem the best way forward is to notify them by email or if they have an online portal. You know there's going to be a liability so if you don't hear within one month, phone them. Some authorities have an online landlord account.

First thing I'd do is kick the tenant out!
