Jacob Rees-Mogg recognises damage done by the Treasury

It is now clear that the Treasury, under George Osborne’s stewardship, made some catastrophically bad decisions with the twin aims of courting popular opinion by appearing to go for the ‘nobs’ and also of raising money towards his manic deficit reduction quest.

As part of this he imposed a large extra burden of stamp duty at the top of the market. This is now being shown to have failed abysmally.jacob rees-mogg

The Times has just reported:

jacob rees-mogg‘Jacob Rees-Mogg, Conservative MP for North East Somerset, said the high rate was costing the Treasury “hundreds of millions”. “This has damaging knock-on effects on a range of businesses and no beneficiaries,” he said.’

I  believe we should take advantage of Jacob Rees-Mogg’s interest in this and get his attention firmly fixed on Section 24. He has a strong public profile and could be a powerful ally.

I am urging everyone who reads this to send Jacob an email outlining the effects that are and will be caused by Section 24. This is the address that can be used >>  jacob.reesmogg.mp@parliament.uk

I suggest you send him a link to my report >> https://www.property118.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/6G0YKMd1Wf.pdf

Also make one or two points in the email to grab his attention, bearing in mind that shorter emails are more likely to be read.

You might also want to send one to Andrew Tyrie on the Treasury Select Committee as he also strikes me as too intelligent and hopefully too decent to repeat the sophistry on the Treasury on this.

His email address is:  andrew.tyrie.mp@parliament.uk

A warning to anyone emailing Reese Mogg, he personally won't reply (unlike most tory mps) but his office assistant will that being said when I emailed him about being charged income tax rather than cgt on disposals she said, he would not be able to raise on my behalf but would put it on his desk as a matter concern.

Just received this from JR-M's personal assistant:

"Many thanks for your email.
As Jacob receives so much correspondence he must prioritise his constituents. However, I will ensure that your message is passed to him and if he gets the opportunity he will reply to you."

In other words he's proabably not going to read or even see it.

Thanks guys. The more who send this the better. We encouraged people to write to Gavin Barwell recently following his appearance on Newsnight and he claimed he had received 'hundreds of letters' on the subject, which at least spurred him on to responding to many and may make him think twice before making erroneous and misleading statements about private housing providers.

To increase the chances of the emails being read I have also forwarded the emails to my own MP and asked him to forward them as well, writing the following:

Hi Wayne
Can you do me a favour and forward the email below for me, as per parliamentary protocol?
Thanks

E- mailed MR. Rees Moggs office. Had both an automated response and a personal staff members response almost immediately saying they would bring my comments to his attention
quickly.
I focused on thanking him for his comment on stamp duty and asking him to also look at Cl 24.
Pointing out>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A... Done in Ireland..didnt work etc and caused huge probs...eventually effectively repealed
B... Actually Cl 24 much more damaging to rental availability and cost over time than stamp duty increase..
C ...Just like the stamp..its unlikely to raise revenue as its based on a COST and landlords will sell up..reduce holdings..incorporate etc and will not be replaced by other private landlords.Gov. responses have focused around us having "time to get out or reduce holdings"....its not truly a revenue instrument and is therefore purely destructive.
D ....tenants will be evicted in thousands over the next four years
E.... The fewer remaining rentals will have increased rents.

Great, Michael. The more the emails are different and point out different aspects, the better.
