I am one of the landlords fighting the absurd tax attacks on the Private Rented Sector from a Chancellor who seemed intent on doing as much damage as possible.
It seems that many people believe landlords...
I have always tried to keep my rents low, and like many other full-time ‘professional’ landlords I have the ethos that I don’t increase rents on tenants in situ. In recent years this has been relatively...
If for nothing else, George Osborne will certainly be known for shaking up the property market with his attack on landlords through Clause 24 and the increase of SDLT.
Many of the British public have completely...
Just scanning the comments and laughed out loud about landlording becoming too profitable. If it was so profitable then there would be more competition and rents would fall. This is the way the market works, indeed all markets that are not state controlled. It's basic economics. The simple fact is that it is now better to have your money in the bank as you get a better return, it carries much less risk and is so much easier.... Read More
Good luck with that one. Twomey will shut his eyes, stick his fingers in his ears and go 'Lah, lah lah'. He is not concerned with the truth, only promoting himself as the tenant's saviour.... Read More
Not for the first time Sam, I recall that Shelter employees went on strike either 2017 or 2018 for the same reason. Hard to believe when the 'charity' pulls in £72m.... Read More
The bloke's off his rocker. There's loads of FTBs getting on the ladder already and I have no issue whatsoever with more doing so, but he seems to be of the opinion that landlords have first refusal on any property that comes to market, and that of course is nonsense. So what is a 'mortgage guarantee scheme' if not a DIP? And of course every FTB should be getting a DIP before they start house hunting.
If this scheme in any way delays a sale then the vendors are not going to be too chuffed. Just more Government induced bureaucracy slowing down the system.
They want the SRS to be the second biggest provider of homes but they've scaled back on their commitment to build more, and they still don't get that if they build a massive amount of new houses then they will force prices up, not bring them down. Construction material prices will go through the roof (no pun intended) as will skilled labour.
How is that going to increase the percentage of home ownership?
If you rent your home things are going to get a lot worse under Labour as they hammer landlords more and force them out of the market. Not going to be much of a vote winner IMHO.
And they fail to acknowledge the elephant in the room with immigration increasing demand for housing every single day.
And they want to run the country! Unfortunately they will probably get their opportunity to do so.... Read More

The Landlords Alliance (of which I was a member) did indeed get off to a good start and Larry challenged several injustices. He took on the Alliance unpaid and alas not enough landlords joined IMHO. If ever there was an argument for human cloning it was Maggie. She was a proper Conservative, the likes we've not seen since. She understood the issues around the rental market and addressed them. What we have now is the most pathetic administration of any colour I've seen in my lifetime. This particular bunch of idiots are completely clueless and I'd rather see Labour get it next time around than this crowd. They are completely taking the **** but what better can we expect with a corrupt Housing Minister? As for the NRLA I quit the organisation in June as they have no stomach for a fight and a fight is what we need. Why the hell are they not launching a JR???... Read More
